A young basketball player from Mt. Enterprise will get to represent his country playing in an international showcase tournament in Italy this summer.

Eighth grader Micah Wright was selected to join a group of talented basketball kids from across the country as they play for the 14U Team USA this July in Milan. Wright earned the opportunity after participating in a basketball camp in Dallas in September run by Exact Sports, an organization that manages NCAA-compliant training camps nationwide for aspiring and current student athletes and arranges several international showcase tournaments a year across multiple sports. After training and being evaluated at the camp by NCAA and NAIA coaches, Wright received an invitation in January to be one of their Exact All American basketball players for the Milan tournament.

Wright plays basketball for both his school and as part of an East Texas-based AAU basketball club called East Texas Reign run by his parents Dustin and Brittany Wright. Several Reign teams participated in the Coca-Cola National Tournament held in Garden Grove, California last June, and it was there that Wright first got noticed and was later invited to attend an Exact Sports camp.

“[Micah] was astounded,” said mom Brittany Wright. “He was kind of blown away that somebody saw him. He’s from East Texas. He’s not a big kid—but he’s finally starting to grow. But he’s an amazing ball player and he was just amazed that anybody had paid attention to him at all.”

Wright’s tournament schedule in Italy will include at least three games against international teams, a day for sightseeing with teammates and a special media day where they will all receive their uniforms. The Wright family is working toward raising $15k to help cover fees and travel expenses with a GoFundMe page, Venmo donations (@MicahAllAmerican2025) and fundraisers.

East Texas Reign teams are actively playing in tournaments for the spring season. Another Mt. Enterprise basketball player, Chasity Garcia, plays for Reign’s varsity girls team who just won a basketball tournament in Cypress on the weekend of April 5-6, going undefeated against three Houston area teams. That Reign girls team also includes players from Gary, Longview, Timpson and Center who participated in the Coca-Cola National Tournament last summer and were the runner ups in the 16U girls division.
